Skyshow 2011:  The LEBTA Board and the Skyshow Committee issued a press release which was published in full in the Lakes Post on Wednesday 31 Aug.  Unfortunatley due to the lack of substantial funding, the Skyshow will not go ahead on NYE Dec 31 2011.  LEBTA board and  the Skyshow Committee worked closely over the last 6 months to explore all options to guarrantee full funding for 2011 Skyshow.  The descision had to be made now, 4 months before the event to allow contractors and suppliers to consider work in other parts of Australia.

Recent flood alert:  The possibility of flooding around Lakes Entrance caused road closures 2 weeks ago.  In hindsight, this had a huge impact on weekend visitation to Lakes Entrance.  Businesses may send ideas to help alleviate this problem in the future, to the Shire at  feedback@egipps.vic.gov.au

VIC Network evenings are being held at Lakes Entrance VIC on Tuesday 6th and at Bairnsdale on Thursday 8 September.  Reply to Wendy.  Glen Greer who was appointed the manager of Lakes Entrance VIC has resigned. 

Bike Ride: A special day ride “Ride the Trail in a Day” (100km) from Bairnsdale to Orbost will be run on Saturday 1 October.  Contact: Liz Mitchell 04285 56088

Industrial Study:  EGSC are seeking tenders for a consultant to look at future industrial opportunities in East Gippsland.  Details:  EGSC   Trudie Kohry.

Gippsland Lakes Taskforce have released a report on the condition of the lakes.  More details: www.gippslandlakestaskforce.vic.gov.au

Many young seals have been seen around Lakes Entrance during the last week.  Often seen on the rocks on the inside north east wall.

Licensed Tour Operators:  DSE (State Govt) have kept access fees to public land for Commercial Operators the same for 2 years.  Fees will rise in 2013.

North Arm Boat ramp:  The project appears to be complete with the installation of a floating landing.

Victorian Senior of the Year:  Applications required by Friday 22 August.

EG Regional Aquatic Facilities Feasibility Study:  Comments close 12 August.

Metung Village: EGSC have engaged consultants to make recommendations on how to revitalise the village.  Comments to EGSC.

Parks Victoria are seeking applications from qualified persons to carry out removal of vermin and introduced plants in Parks and Crown Land.

Legal Aid: Available on Monday mornings at 101A Main Street Bairnsdale.

The former “Nautilus Cafe” is ungoing a refurbishment to become the “Floating Dragon” Restaurant.

Lakes Entrance VIC:  New manager is Glen Greer.  Glen grew up in Lakes Entrance, has an Economics degree, travelled extensively and recently worked at Funkey Monkey Bakery Cafe.

VIC Annual Fees: Due to the review process of VICs in the Shire, annual fees have been deferred til August.

Business Survey:  East Gippsland TAFE are contacting Lakes Entrance businesses to see if there is support to run various business courses at the SEAMEC Centre.  Possible training includes Cert 3 and Cert 4 Business Courses and short (one or two day) courses including leadership, running meetings, social media and tender writing.  More information: Rebecca Woodland 5150 4227.

North Arm Boat ramp:  The project is nearly complete including new ramps, toilets and  launching jetties.

Dolphins: Over the last week, many dolphins have been seen in Cunningham Arm and North Arm.

Agri-tourism Forum in Lakes Entrance.  Wednesday 25 May 10am.  A free forum to discuss the use of agriculture in tourism.  This includes farm stays, specialist crops, farm to table dining, use of farm and fish products.  More information from Phil Richards EGSC.
